Is a Charlean, elder stateman, one that "deserves a honorary Nigeria's Ambassador Extraordinary to North America! Whenever help is needed by any Nigerian he knows about, he takes on the cause with time and whatever resources he can muster" ? Iyaafin Tola Adenle.
Dr Lateef Bamidele was born to the family of Late Pa & Mama Opawoye, while they were at Ile Ife, in (the old Oyo but now) Osun State. The Opawoye family came from Osogbo, a city renowned for its cultural heritage and ancentral history. Whenever the name ? Osogbo is mentioned, it is usually followed with appelations such as "Ilu Aro?, ?Oroki Asala", ?Omi la buwe, omi la bu mun, omi Osun?.
Dr Lateef Bamidele was a pioneer student of St Charles Grammar School Osogbo. Having completed his elementary schooling at Ife, he gained admission to the new catholic school and he was much loved by the school principal (Mr McFarlane) not just because of his aptitudes for science, as a very young boy but because Dr Opawoye has a small stature then, the pricipal wanted him to "beef up", it was a daily routine for Dr Opawoye and 2 other classmates with similar stature to take fresh milk from the house of Mr McFarlane. No wonder Dr Opawoye was full of energy to climb the pole and unfurl the 1960 Independence flag. have you seen the video of Dr Opawoye climbing the pole? It will be shown (redacted copy) at the London Convention.
